PERFORMANCE PROGRAM

Collegiate - Performance Preparation Program
This course trains students to become well-rounded, confident musicians who are capable of performing under pressure, and are knowledgeable in self-presentation. It prepares students for collegiate music school and orchestra auditions, as well as local, national, and international competitions. Students perform in class where they are evaluated by their peers in a constructive manner. Community Outreach Concerts are scheduled throughout the year. High School Seniors are given solo performance opportunities in preparation for auditions, and support in collegiate tour management, while sophomores and juniors are assigned college research projects. Grade 4 – 7 students in the Academic Program are invited to perform in January. Classroom seminar subjects vary by year. SCM has held seminars and panels on performance psychology, Alexander Technique, collegiate audition/application preparation, stage etiquette and demeanor, professional musician question/answer forum, composer visitations and its annual senior result information seminar for all students and their families. Students can take this course independently as part of the Performance Program. Audition requirements are the same as the Academic Program. This class may be taken as part of the Academic Program.

Dorothy Richard Starling Violin Scholarship Program
The Dorothy Richard Starling Violin Foundation sponsors violin students of Conservatory Director Margaret Pressley. The scholarship includes violin lessons, music academic classes, chamber music, violin ensemble rehearsals and performances, travel, pianist funding and an annual concert at Benaroya Recital Hall.
