Senior Division
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS & POLICIES

Age
Students enrolled in the Senior Division must be between the ages of 12–19.

Audition
Each applicant must perform before a faculty committee.

Private Lesson Instruction
Every student is required to take regular private lessons with a teacher of his/her own choice. Private lesson fees are not included in tuition. Our office is happy to give instructor referrals to prospective students.

Program Selection
The Senior Division offers two interactive programs: Academic and Collegiate-Performance Preparation. A third and selective program is the Starling Violin Scholarship Program.

Placement Exams
Students who have successfully auditioned into the Upper Division Academic Program and seek classes above the entry level, may take placement exams for Ear Training and Music Theory. Please call for information and dates.

Semester Exams and Juries
Exams are given at mid-year and during the final two weeks of classes. All Academic and Collegiate-Performance Preparation students must perform a jury at the end of the year. Students receive graded evaluations based on performance improvement. Jury repertoire requirements are the same as the original audition requirements. Varied movements and pieces should replace the original audition repertoire. Students prepare throughout the year for juries, which determine passage into the next year’s classes.

Dedication to Practice and Studies
Because musicians must discipline themselves at an early age if they are to succeed professionally, students are expected to approach their practice and studies seriously and to observe all school regulations. Failure to do so may jeopardize a student’s standing, and he or she may be asked to withdraw from the school.

Attendence
When illness or exceptional circumstances cause absence, students must notify their faculty. Permission to be absent requires the consent of all instructors and coaches. Assignments and make-up tests must be completed to obtain a passing grade.
